Pro’s Choice: The Best (and Worst) Wallpaper Brands for Your Home
After many years of hanging every type of wallcovering imaginable, I’ve dealt with the good, the bad, and the bubbling. About two years ago, I started keeping a formal record of which brands make the cut and which ones make the job a nightmare.
If you are planning an accent wall or a full room renovation, here is my professionalBuy vs. Do Not Buylist to ensure your walls look perfect and last for years.
🏆 The "Buy" List: Recommended Manufacturers
These brands prioritizenon-woventechnology. Non-woven is a mix of cellulose and polyester fibers that won't shrink or expand. It’s "paste-the-wall" friendly, breathable (resists mold), and easy to strip when you're ready for a change.

🚫 The "Do Not Buy" List: Brands to Avoid
Some manufacturers make the installation process unnecessarily difficult, which often leads to higher labor costs and a less-than-perfect finish.
❌ Spoonflower
Reason:Unnecessarily complicated. In an era where factories can provide perfectly trimmed edges, Spoonflower requires you todouble-cut and overlapevery single piece. It’s a 100% vinyl product that is either too thin or a thick "canvas" texture. You have to paste and "book" the paper, and the edges aren't factory-ready. It complicates what should be a simple process. Save your money and your sanity—avoid this one.
❌ Generic "Peel & Stick" (Self-Adhesive)
Reason:High risk of air bubbles and failure. While they seem easy, "Peel & Stick" products can be a meticulous nightmare. If they aren't installed perfectly the first time, they trap air bubbles and can often peel away from the wall if the temperature or texture isn't exactly right.
💡 Pro Tip: Why Non-Woven is King
Since the 1990s, non-woven wallpaper has become my preferred choice (now nearly 50% of the jobs I do).
No "Booking":You paste the wall, not the paper.
Dimensional Stability:It doesn't stretch or shrink when wet.
Easy Removal:It usually comes off in one clean sheet years later.
